INTEGRIS GROVE HOSPITAL HAS PARTNERED WITH LIFESHARE FOR THE WORKPLACE PARTNERSHIP FOR LIFE PROGRAM
This April, a Donate Life flag will fly proudly at city hall in Grove, Okla. INTEGRIS Grove Hospital is one of many hospitals in the state that has partnered with LifeShare for the Workplace Partnership for Life program. The initiative is a national program that unites the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with the organ and tissue community to help employers to educate employees about the need for organ, eye and tissue donation. The program is free-of-charge, and offers many benefits to the Workplace Partner.
“The Workplace Partnership program is a great way to further our involvement in organ donation,” said James Sharp (pictured), Clinical Director Surgery/Cath Lab of INTEGRIS Grove Hospital. “It helps us generate ideas for donation awareness in the hospital and throughout the community.”
With the rising number of men, women and children on the waiting list to receive a lifesaving organ, INTEGRIS Grove Hospital recognizes the importance of urging employees and the community to register as an organ donor.
“In our small hospital community, we have several employees who have been blessed through organ donation,” said Sharp. “We believe that it is important for us to provide our patients and family members with the best opportunity to give this monumental donation.”
LifeShare works closely with Workplace Partners, offering event ideas and promotional materials to help make the partnership successful.
“The many different suggested activities LifeShare provided made developing a plan easy. We educate our new employees about donation in their employee orientation, and we have LifeShare posters hung in common areas like the nurses' desk. Staff also receive badge cards with a timely referral as a reference tool,” Sharp shared.
Grove’s community has responded well to the workplace partnership. The hospital has partnered with several organizations in the community to perform health screens and provide information about different healthcare topics. They have also partnered with the City of Grove to join the national initiative of declaring April ‘Donate Life Month’.
During the month of April, INTEGRIS Grove will have an organ donation celebration that includes a donor registry drive, a flag raising ceremony and testimonials.
“We have a great turnout for our health fairs and donor registry drives from both employees and community members,” Sharp said. “Blue and Green day is always an exciting day for our staff, and creates several patient education opportunities about donation.”
The hospital campaign of the Workplace Partnership for Life Program is now in Phase V at hospitals and transplant centers across Oklahoma. This campaign exists to promote organ, eye and tissue donation by conducting awareness and registry events in hospitals and communities.
Campaign participants have the opportunity to earn bronze, silver, gold, and for the first time, platinum level recognition from HRSA and the Campaign’s national partners.
For past campaigns, LifeShare has partnered with various hospitals across the state to help them earn recognition for their efforts and activities to promote donation. In Phase V, hospitals and transplant centers earn points toward a recognition award for each activity completed between May 1, 2015 and April 30, 2016.
If your hospital or transplant center is not registered to participate in this important campaign to increase donation awareness, we encourage you to sign-up today. LifeShare will partner with you to help your organization earn recognition for your activities.
