We Save Lives
In January of 2023, LifeShare announced that it has reformed the organization. The new business name for the organization is now the LifeShare Network, Inc.
The LifeShare Network, Inc., serves as the parent company for multiple organizations: LifeShare Transplant Donor Services of Oklahoma, Inc., (our Organ Procurement Organization), LifeShare Tissue Services, Inc., and LifeShare Innovations, LLC. All of these exist with community support through the LifeShare Foundation. While there have been name and organizational changes, the LifeShare Network, Inc., and its subsidiaries will still have the same lifesaving mission to save lives through organ and tissue donation.
This change will allow the organization to create efficiencies, allow for continued growth, promote innovation and medical advancement, and maximize the use of every organ and tissue donation to save more lives across the nation.
LifeShare is a nonprofit organ procurement organization (OPO) dedicated to the recovery of organs and tissue for transplant purposes. We are committed to caring for the families that are touched by donation. LifeShare team members are a wonderful group of caring professionals who regardless of their role contribute to our core purpose of saving of lives.
LifeShare, created in 1986 as The Oklahoma Organ Sharing Network. We work closely with three transplant centers and 145 healthcare organizations across the state of Oklahoma to facilitate donation. Additionally, we strive to raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation through public education.
In March of 2020, LifeShare announced the development of a Central Donation Facility (CDF) for the facilitation of the donation process. Establishing a donation facility has quickly become a national best practice for organ procurement organizations. Under this new model, LifeShare will routinely, but not universally, transfer authorized organ donors from the originating or referring donor hospital to the recovery facility to facilitate the donation process. LifeShare also has a fully operational clean room to enhance kidney pump operations. There is a secondary office located in Tulsa and tissue recovery center in Oklahoma City.
In April of 2022, LifeShare opened their new state-of-the-art Clinical Innovation Center to help support its lifesaving and life-enhancing efforts. LifeShare purchased and remodeled a 19,000 square foot building to house its clinical operations. The building features areas for tissue recovery, organ perfusion and includes meeting spaces. This new facility will allow for the potential of more organ and tissue donors, and also for the advancement of kidney and liver perfusion technology.
LifeShare has approximately 150 staff members responsible for various tasks including organ, eye and tissue screening and recovery, medical management of potential donors, quality control services, bereavement care for families, public education and awareness, hospital development and basic administration.
