New Mom Helps Save Lives Through Birth Tissue Donation
OKLAHOMA CITY (January 10, 2024) — In a profound act of compassion and generosity, Dr. Lisa Cheek, an OB-GYN of Oklahoma City, contributed to the miracle of life in a new way: by donating her own birth tissue. Dr. Cheek recently participated in LifeShare Oklahoma’s Labor of Love program, where she donated her placental birth tissue post-childbirth. The mission and goal of birth tissue donation is to aid in the healing journey of others.

LifeShare Oklahoma is the nonprofit organization in the state responsible for organ and tissue donation.
Research continues to show the beneficial outcomes of placental birth tissue use. This specific tissue type allows tissue to conform to various wound sites. Its natural covering helps with the restoration of damaged or unhealthy tissue, which is commonly caused by injury, disease and medical procedures.
After Dr. Cheek planned her cesarean delivery, LifeShare called to introduce the program to her and ask if she would be willing to participate.
“I chose to donate my placenta because I believe in evidence-based medicine, and the power of research and science. If I can contribute to that mission through my own donation, I’m happy to be a part of something greater”, Dr. Cheek stated.
Expectant mothers of any age, birthing via scheduled cesarean delivery., can take advantage of this unique opportunity if their hospital or delivery center partners with LifeShare for the Labor of Love program.
