LIFESHARE ANNOUNCES CENTRAL DONATION FACILITY
LifeShare of Oklahoma recently announced the development of a Central Donation Facility (CDF) for the facilitation of the donation process.
LifeShare is the federally designated organ procurement organization (OPO) in Oklahoma responsible for the recovery of organ, eye and tissue donation.
Establishing a donation facility has quickly become a national best practice for organ procurement organizations. Under this new model, LifeShare will routinely, but not universally, transfer authorized organ donors from the originating or referring donor hospital to the recovery facility to facilitate the donation process.
The referring hospital will still be recognized as the donor hospital for all documentation purposes and will be reimbursed for any expenses related to donation.
This change comes to LifeShare after significant growth in both employees and number of donors each year.
“This new Central Donation Facility allows LifeShare to facilitate donation in a timely manner and also allows us to better support our donor families’ needs,” said Jeffrey Orlowski, President and CEO of LifeShare said.
LifeShare is hopeful that this new process will alleviate any demands, both in resources and spacing, that they have previously created for their hospital partners.
