Derrick the Donor, depicted as an oil derrick, is LifeShare Network’s mascot and is featured out and about across Oklahoma at events.
The importance of oil to Oklahoma cannot be overstated. With a legacy steeped in oil exploration and production, the state has long been recognized as one of the leading oil-producing regions in the United States. The abundance of oil reserves beneath Oklahoma’s soil has not only fueled economic development but has also shaped its cultural identity.
Beyond its economic impact, oil plays a fundamental role in shaping Oklahoma’s communities and way of life. From the iconic oil derricks among the landscape to the countless jobs and opportunities generated by the industry, oil permeates many aspects of Oklahoma’s society.
When selecting a mascot to represent the LifeShare Network, we wanted something relatable to Oklahomans yet something fun and eye-catching. Organ donation like oil production, embodies the spirit of hope, resilience, and transformation that defines our state and its people.
Creatively merging our organization with the symbol of an oil derrick symbolically allows us to see that both can give and sustain life in different ways. Both oil and organ donation involve valuable resources, and both have impacted numerous Oklahomans in positive ways.
