LIFESHARE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANNUAL DECISION WEEK
ENCOURAGES OKLAHOMANS TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT ORGAN, EYE AND TISSUE DONATION
This week, LifeShare is hosting its annual Decision Week campaign. Decision Week is an initiative established by LifeShare to encourage Oklahomans to make the decision to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor and share their decision with their families.
LifeShare is the organ procurement organization in Oklahoma responsible for the recovery of organs and tissue for transplant purposes.
Local Oklahoma celebrities, such as Mike Gundy and Bob Stoops have partnered with LifeShare for media efforts encouraging others to register as a donor.
For the past 20 years, LifeShare has printed an insert which is distributed in most Oklahoma newspapers during Decision Week. The insert contains stories about generous donors and grateful recipients as well as education regarding organ donation.
“During the holiday week, while you are with your family, we encourage you to make the important decision to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor and to share that decision with your family,” said Jeffrey Orlowski, President and Chief Executive Officer of LifeShare. “Registering to be a donor is a personal decision that needs to be shared with those closest to you, so please take time to have this important conversation.”
In Oklahoma, there are three ways to register to be a donor; on your license or state ID card, online at LifeShareRegistry.org, or by calling 800-826-LIFE to request a donor registration form be sent to you.
While most Oklahomans support organ, eye and tissue donation, only 56% of the population is registered. Approximately 121,000 Americans are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Of these, 900 are fellow Oklahomans.
